The objective of the work is to develop a prioritised approach for crosscutting assessment of the environmental implications of EU enlargement and implementation of this approach.

This work could be of benefit for many purposes:

  • to monitor the implications of the process and assess its future consequences;
  • to help identify the main opportunities and threats of the process from the point of view of impact to the environment;
  • to support Community institutions in policy process and particularly in reviewing of the 6th Environmental Action Program and Sustainable Development Strategy;
  • to help countries direct their own policies in a European perspective;
  • to provide the communication platform for EEA to discuss with interested parties the purpose of the activity, facilitate the consultation process and give possibilities for interactive work.
