The assessments of the implications of the EU enlargement to Europe's state of environment and outlooks
The assessments are looking at the whole enlarged EU with
the specific focus on the new EU member states as well
as candidate countries and Western Balkan
countries. The objective of the work is to develop a
prioritised approach for crosscutting assessment of the
environmental implications of EU enlargement and
implementation of this approach.
This work could be of benefit for many purposes:
- to monitor the implications of the process and assess its future consequences;
- to help identify the main opportunities and threats of the process
from the point of view of impact to the environment;
- to support Community institutions in policy process and
particularly in reviewing of the 6th Environmental
Action Program and Sustainable Development Strategy;
- to help countries direct their own policies in a European perspective;
- to provide the communication platform for EEA to discuss
with interested parties the purpose of the activity, facilitate the consultation
process and give possibilities for interactive work.
